Canoe Caddo Lake's Majestic Cypress Swamps

We did a trip to this park in late October just as the oaks and hardwoods and cypress trees were starting to show their fall colors. It was so beautiful and rivaled what one sees up in the northern states. We brought our RV trailer and had a nice space, it had water and electricity but no sewage disposal on site but that was ok. The park does have a small section with full hookups but that was already booked up. The park offers many trails to hike on in the woods. They also have a nice large pier on the small lake in the park, one could fish from their or go to take pictures. On occasion we used the restrooms, we try not to fill our grey water tank so take showers in the public restrooms. They were quite nice and seemed to be fairly new. We saw a park host driving around on a golf cart but didn't interact with him. Each site has a picnic table, a hook to hang a lantern and a fire ring. Some are larger sites than others but all were of a decent size. Just so you know in case you have a big trailer, there is a fairly steep hill you have to come down from to get to the campsites. The one way road leaving the park is not as steep which we liked. Pulling a big trailer is not easy!

Enchanting scenery, memorable hikes, and welcoming rangers. I had an amazing time canoeing at Caddo Lake—a truly unique ecosystem! The experience was enhanced by the stunning bald cypress trees and Spanish moss, and the park rangers were extremely helpful, guiding me to the best spots for photos. I highly recommend checking it out if you're a nature lover or photography enthusiast. Looking forward to returning soon! 🌿 Pros: - age inclusive activities - easy to navigate - well-maintained campsites - friendly staff - affordable fun - great biodiversity - canoes are sturdy - clean indoor restrooms - water at ranger station Cons: - The location of campsites can make it difficult to get a fully natural picture of the shoreline trees, but there are still many amazing photo opportunities on the lake.

This park is beautiful! Great camping areas for tent and rv's amongst the forest with septic and electric, great views of the cypress trees, awesome pier for fishing and birdwatching and a nice gift shop.

Staff was great! Shout out to Suzanne who was awesome! Campground had nice sites and fantastic bathroom facilities. The canoeing was good in Saw Mill Pond - see the beaver lodge- but the Bayou was filled with motor boats so 1/2 mile out and back was enough. Other canoe trails on the Bayou are nearby and might be much better. Small park all-in-all; only 2.5 miles of hiking but lots to do in the area.

Beautiful park builtin the depression era by CCC and WPA crews who just wanted to work. The did an amazing job. These log cabins start about $75 a night but are just fantastic. The paths and stone steps laid about almost 100 years ago show wat pride in workmanship means. Too bad the invasive species in the water make it difficult to easily enjoy the bayou. The gatehouse where you must stop to enter the park has an excellent little shop. I was just there to get a Texas State Park Pass but took the time to drive all through the park on my motorcycle it was such a great fall day. Watch that first hill headed down to the water! Lol
