Discover the San Antonio Botanical Garden

I very much enjoyed my trip to the botanical gardens. I opted to buy my ticket at the gate this time. I went mid afternoon, there was still four hours left of open access and the price was fair. Even though I went a bit later, I was still able to find ample parking for my large truck. Free parking for visitors. The map is somewhat tricky to follow but you get the hang of it. The gardens are gorgeous. Well manicured and maintained. I particularly enjoyed the indoor specialty exhibits. They were decorating and themed for Halloween which was also fun, though the Texas walk at the back end when you come across the five mannequins who are surrounding a cauldron with black hoods on was unsettling. I suppose that was the point 😅. I loved they there was multiple areas to sit and rest, lots of shaded spots and many water fountains throughout. They do allow refillable water bottles. The grotto was closed for repair which made me sad as I had hoped to see it. There is a restaurant and cafe but I did not utilize. The little Japanese garden was cute too. The gift shop was decent but it was mostly crafts on display rather than being specific botanical garden merchandise. I’d hoped for better souvenirs but it was pretty niche. Staff was very friendly at all points in the visit. The little area for kids is really neat and has a lot of things to keep them interested and occupied. Made me wish I was a kid again. Not overly difficult to get to the location either. Highly recommend!

We went for the Happy Fright event in the park. So a disclaimer most of my visit was in the dark. However the space is amazing. The addition of large sculpture along with nature is great. The event kept you on a limited area around the lake but we went through several areas around the pond. The restrooms could have used an attendant for a large event like the Halloween event but otherwise amazing. I'll definitely be returning in the spring for a daytime viewing.

This was such a nice garden to visit; Very peaceful, well kept, plenty of photo opportunities. The trails are nice and the gift shop was super cute as well. Went on a Sunday morning, so it was not crowded at all. Would highly recommend if you are looking to get a peaceful walk in while in San Antonio!

Absolutely beautiful location and I was surprised at family area. It looked really enjoyable for kids with strong imaginations and those that like to play in water. I love the art exhibits meshed with the gardens. There were so many bees and butterflies. We also caught some hummingbirds. We took notes on the best flowers to grow at the house to attract them.

I've lived here 20+ years, and this was our first time coming out. Honestly, I feel like we have been missing out. There are so many fun spots to explore and experience. We really enjoyed ourselves. We weren't in a rush and took our time. There are plenty of places to sit for a rest, and with this Texas heat and children, we did stop for drinks several times. For the most part, it is stroller and wheelchair friendly with just a few exceptions. Technically, it is dog friendly, but a lot of the attractions do not allow dogs beyond a certain point. There is a very long splash creek for the kiddos. The highest spot was about ankle deep. I highly recommend taking lots of water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes. We are now so excited to see what the next theme will be. We were bummed that we missed the storybook theme when we learned about it. But the bunnies and butterflies were adorable.
