Explore Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens on Oahu

I wasn't sure what to expect from these botanical gardens, but we had a great time! There were multiple paths to take (some marked, others not marked at all) depending on what you are looking for. We ended up going on an "unmaintained" path that lured us in with its dark, jungly look, and I'm so glad we did. It was a bit more of a challenge (logs/trees across the tiny path, some acrobatics required), and it let us out at a giant, beautiful grove. No matter which path you take, be sure to wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy!

Beautiful place. Entry is free, but there is a guy at the entrance who writes down the license plate number and asks if it's your first time there. The entire park can be driven through or you can stop and walk as you wish. The views are truly breathtaking. You can see lots of flowers, birds, fish in the lake

Absolutely beautiful and exquisite. Definitely recommend a visit. Can accommodate personal, small, or larger groups. Parking is available in gardens. Bypass Lot 1 and go directly to Lot 2 to avoid sitting in idle traffic. Upon entry to gardens, the ranger will notate your vehicle plate and ask about your residency. There may be a few vehicles ahead of you, but the line moves quickly, 3-5min max. The iconic drive through the gate will prompt you to get your camera out which honestly is fine, but keep moving. (You WILL get scolded.) You can also walk in, but no need. Personally have been a few times, and the grounds are consistently kept manicured. So much beauty to behold, regardless of how much time spent.

I sincerely suggest renting a soft top jeep or a convertible to drive through this botanical garden. It’s SUCH a beautiful drive and having a roof over your head while driving through is a crime! I also suggest parking and getting out to explore the trails because omg, it’s freaking beautiful! There just so much to explore here. But seriously, if you don’t have a car, this might be a little much for you unless you plan to only go to the visitor center and the lake.

Amazed at how beautiful & expansive the grounds were. a great way to spend the afternoon; free entry. The visitors center has warm helpful volunteers to answer questions, help you maximize your time. FYI: The entry into the gardens is accessed through a neighborhood.
