Scenic Railroad Journey Through Royal Gorge

My trip on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad was truly unforgettable! Drink prices averaged around $7, which was fair for the experience. A helpful tip: try to sit on the left side of the train for the best views. Since seats are assigned, I recommend talking to the ticket agent to see if they can assist with seating requests. Also, be sure to go outside early during the ride to secure a spot for photos—the scenery is absolutely breathtaking! The entire journey takes about an hour in each direction, so you have plenty of time to soak in the incredible views. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area!

This was a fun experience. I went with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We got dome tickets on the upper floor, which was great because we had a nice view of the scenery below. We didn’t know you could order food on the train and thought it was pre-order only, so that was a pleasant surprise. We didn’t opt for the Oktoberfest menu since it was overpriced, but luckily, they offered a full menu. We weren’t too hungry, so I just got the kids' grilled cheese with chips, and we ordered two drinks to enjoy during the ride. Overall, it was a fun experience. We checked out the open deck area, but it was a bit crowded. Still, we managed to take some good photos and enjoy the historical aspects of the ride.

This was super fun. The views were amazing but the staff really helped make the experience even better. Our server was super friendly and Hubie, our tour guide was one of those people you just love talking/listening to. He had answers for everything and even helped me take a few pictures. I would most definitely recommend to any and everyone.

Riding the rails through otherwise inaccessible areas is always fun. The trip follows the Arkansas River up and back for about an hour each way with a stop under the Royal Gorge Bridge. Food is okay. Servers and porters are friendly and informative. Highly recommend the sky view seats. The open-air section can get crowded. River is beautiful (and tempting for an angler) and bighorns common. A bit of a grind for us since we round tripped from Denver…better to plan other activities while in Cañon City and be more leisurely. Depot staff helpful and plenty of swag to buy. Restrooms smallish and tight for accessibility. Caboose cafe good place to start the journey. Choosing good weather day vital.

Nice train ride. Don't buy your meal ticket in advance. You may lose money based on what you order. Service staff is excellent. Carla and the check-in tram could use some customer service training and be a bit more welcoming. Once you get past that, everything is good.
